Growing a Mo for Movember
Have you ever wondered why you see people around your city growing dirty moustaches in November?
What is Movember?
Movember is a global event where men grow moustaches during November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide. The goal of Movember is to “change the face of men’s health” by encouraging men to get involved in the movement and take charge of their health.
During this month, men from all over the world grow moustaches or commit to running/walking every day to help raise funds to support their three main causes.
What are their causes? I’m glad you asked!
Mental health and suicide prevention — Suicide is largely preventable. Here’s how we’re making a
differenceProstate cancer — Globally, ~10.8M men are living with or beyond prostate cancer. Here’s what we’re doing about it
Testicular cancer — Our approach to the world’s most common cancer among men aged 15–39
Why do I do it?
I’ve been at this for 16 years now, I haven’t raised money every year but I’ve been growing that mo and talking to people about it.
I’m personally inspired to do it by my Dad, he had two bouts with Prostate cancer and lived to tell the tale. My Dad is my hero, but that experience forced me to imagine the world without him. I didn’t like that, not one bit. I struggled through those times and I can’t imagine if it had worked out differently for him. Unfortunately, that is the case for far too many men out there and it breaks my heart.
Also, my mate Bryan who’s in remission after his fight with cancer, and my friends from High School, Derrick and Sean who have gone far too soon.
So every year I post photos on social networks and ask people to give. Which leads me to…
Please Give
I know that times are tough and it’s hard to find extra money to give away. Hopefully, I’ve helped you see why this is a worthy cause and maybe you can find it in your heart to give.
I’m aiming for $1000 this year which isn’t huge but the way I see it is, every donation has the potential to make the difference.

Their Story
This movement started with 30 Mo Bros. Now, it claims a headcount of over 6 million. And we’re not done yet.
Their Cause
Men’s health is in crisis. Men are dying on average 4.5 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons.
A growing number of men — around 10.8M globally — are facing life with a prostate cancer diagnosis. Globally, testicular cancer is the most common cancer among young men. Across the world, one man dies by suicide every minute of every day, with males accounting for 69% of all suicides.
Movember is uniquely placed to address this crisis on a global scale. We fund groundbreaking projects all over the world, engaging men where they are to understand what works best and accelerate change.
Their Values
Movember’s values steer everything we do. They keep us focused on who we are as an organization. They are what set us apart.
