#1 - We agree on the fact that developers who have been at it for longer (heck even a short time) can be good at both. The post is saying that the expectations has grown so much beyond just frontend and backend development that it’s too hard to keep a high level skill across it all. I think this is where we disagree.
#2 - This has nothing to do with complexity, maybe I used that word and I shouldn’t have, I’ll check. The overall scope of the role has changed and grown leaps and bounds. Almost no one just builds features and throws it over the wall to testing, security and deployment teams anymore. The increased scope is what makes this impossible.
#3 - I’m saying curiosity is the best trait to have as a developer as you will never stop growing or learning. That makes for a great developer, regardless of whether they are an expert or not.
#4 - I get the feeling we aren’t going to see eye to eye on this and that’s totally fine. Thanks for reading and expressing your opinion. I have seen this build over the last 5 or so years and needed to let it out, writing helps me solidify those messy opinions stuck in my head. Stay curious mate!
